A visit to Berkely Castle

Recently my friend Eve and I drove up to Birmingham to see the Wagner Opera The Valkyries - the second opera of the Ring Cycle.  On the way back we stopped at Berkeley Castle near Stroud in Gloucestershire

Wandering Around Devon

We have been wandering around Devon a bit recently.
Two views of Salcombe from the walk to Snapes Point
Salcombe is situated at the mouth of an Estuary which is unique in this part of the world as it is the only one not fed by a River, only a series of creeks.
Various views around the Kingsbridge Estuary from the walk around Snapes Point

Blackdown Rings near Loddiswell in the South Hams - A pre-historic hillfort with a Norman Motte and bailey superimposed upon it

Lara Bridge in South Brent over the River Avon on the edge of Dartmoor
A Waterfall on the River Avon from the bridge

Tetcott Manor - house that dates back to the 16th Century.  In early in the 18th century a huge country house was built, but fell into disrepair and was demolished in the late 18th century when it became surplus to the owners requirements.

 A Granite Trough
The gates to the Dunsland Estate.  A stately home which dated from the 17th Century stood here but burned down in 1967.  Almost nothing remains of the house today.
The probable site where the house once stood
 Remains of the stables

Not sure what this was but it sits near a stream in the Dunsland Estate
Higher New Bridge which crosses the Tamar near Launceston.  It used to carry the road from Holsworthy to Launceston
