Still in Norwich

 We visited Sandringham, the queen's country retreat

The village of Castle acre is not far from Sandringham and contains the ruins of a Monastery and Castle which date from the 11th Century

Two views of the 15th Century Moated Castle  at Caister On Sea near Great Yarmouth
 The few remains of the Roman Saxon Shore Fort at Caister On Sea.  It was one of two Forts that controlled the entrance to a great estuary that was there at that time and has now disappeared due to the draining of that area started by the Romans and is now the site of Great Yarmouth.

 The remains of the Saxon Shore Roman fort at Burgh Castle which controlled the other side of the great estuary mentioned before.  It was later the site of a Saxon Monastery

Off to Norfolk and the Midlands

Over the last eight days Mum and I drove to Norwich where we participated in a Treyn Train Holiday visiting local attractions and trains..  Treyn are a travel company which specialises in train based holidays in Britain and Europe mostly.  A couple of years ago we participated in one of their Dordogne based holidays which prompted us to visit that region of France again last year.  This link takes you to their website.

The first place we visited was Snowshill Manor, dating back to the 16th century, in the village of Snowshill in the Cotswolds and near Stratford Upon Avon.  During the period 1919 to 1951 it was the home of a collector of everything called Charles Wade.  Some people may call him a hoarder, but it was an amazing collection.

 William Shakespeare was born near here - So, of course, we had to see a Shakespeare Play.  We saw a great production of "The 12th Night"
