Since we got back from Norfolk. we have been amusing ourselves around Devon and Cornwall. These are some of our ramblings through Devonshire.
Sydenham House near Marystowe in Mid Devon between Launceston and Oakhampton on the River Lyd, a tributary of the River Tamar. This is an early 17th century house which is not open to the public, but was the home of the Tremayne Family who also owned Heligan House near Mevagissy.

The Gatehouse of Dartington Hall near Totnes in Devon close to the banks of the River Dart. Parts of the Hall date back to the 14th Century which makes it one of the earliest Medieval buildings in England. It was built by John Holland, Earl of Huntingdon and Duke of Exeter and half brother of King Richard II. Later it passed into the Champernown family and was their home for many centuries.

Tottiford Lake - a reservoir near Bovey Tracey. It was the site of a Time Team Dig a couple of years ago when the resrvoir was empty and Prehistoric stone rows and circles were found.

a Tudor Gatehouse which is the entrance to Shute Barton - a Medieval Manor House that dates back to the 14th Century. It is now a National Trust Property and has been converted to Holiday lets. It is not open to the public often.

One wet and drizzly day in early September we took a Paddle Steamer trip from Ilfracombe on the North Devon Coast to Lundy Island situated where the Bristol Channel meets the Atlantic Ocean
